I am currently an Associate Professor of Psychology at Illinois Wesleyan University, specializing in the area of Behavioral Neuroscience. Not necessarily the funniest of professions, but there you have it. That said, I have a strong interest in comedy and comedy writing. In addition to completing seven levels of comedy improv training at ComedySportz in Chicago and four levels of comedy sketch writing at Second City Chicago, I have also recently completed my first novel. The Fringe Dwellers is a dark comedy about a couple who constantly break up. Stylistically, it is like Sex and the City as written by Woody Allen and the creators of the Naked Gun and Airplane! movies. Not counting scientific papers on the role of the hippocampus in learning and memory (and truthfully, does anyone count scientific papers on the role of the hippocampus in learning and memory), The Fringe Dwellers represents my first publication.
This page is meant to be a place for those who love comedy writing and performance, with a special emphasis on comedy in Chicago. I plan to post my own comedy writing on this site, so please check back for new comedy pieces. If you have original comedy pieces you would be interested in posting on the site, please let me know. Also, if you perform with or are fans of any comedy improv or sketch performance groups in Chicago, let me know. I would love to give them a plug.
